New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants (NZICA)
The New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants is the country's largest professional body, representing over 28,000 members. The Institute has branches throughout New Zealand and overseas (22% of the members are overseas).
The Institute is responsible for developing accounting, auditing and professional standards for New Zealand, and for administering those standards. Standards are maintained through a wide range of print and electronic information, professional development opportunities, standards development, a wide range of activities to promote the profession and the public interest and rigorous professional conduct and disciplinary standards. Members of the Institute are bound by a Code of Ethics.
The Institute also undertakes advocacy for better and fairer tax and commercial laws, and has a well respected tax policy division. The Institute's Admissions Policy is regarded as a world leader. Professional competency as well as academic ability is assessed before applicants are accepted into full membership.
